Theater ČECHOVO PROZATÍMNĚ OSVOBOZENÉ DIVADLO
presents the finest and the most favorite comedy play
DÍVČÍ VÁLKA (Maidens’ War)
PGK Agency and Divadlo Františka Ringo Čecha (Frantisek Ringo Cech Theater) brings the most successful and the most played comedy of all time – legendary Maidens’ War (Dívčí válka). Already more than half a million guests visited this great comedy and also those who saw it several times laugh over its fanciful gags. Attractiveness of this theater play rises mainly from genre levity, overdrawing, themes as well as from all-star cast. Author of comedy F. R. Cech says: „I wrote Maidens’ War so to speak tailored to Czech nation. I have used kind of humor on field of erotic and politics akin to our people. On top of that it is “relaxing genre”, in which we bring feast of the most beautiful women that our pitiful homeland disposes of. I always say with some exaggeration – it is form that God makes it up to his beloved Czechs effects of failures in a free economy. Full halls across this country bespeaks about the success of Maidens’ War”.
The story of our historical comedy begins rather unusual for drollery. It begins with Princess Libuse’s funeral. Due to technical difficulties with the implementation of the mourning act on stage, that takes place out of the viewer’s sight and the story then starts with a conversation of Prince Premysl with Nobleman Bivoj which returns from a funeral. Prince Premysl ambivalent between sadness after the loss of a beloved woman and pleasure of the newly acquired freedom has become the target of attacks of pushy Vlasta eager after marriage. She can take advantage of girls’ uncertainty and fear about share in the public life and has ambitions to take the place of Princess Libuse. Thanks to her temperament and passion she does not hesitate to achieve its objective by any means. Prince Přemysl has no intention at all to marry Vlasta and his erotic-aesthetic attention rather turns onto Libuse’s sister – charming Kazi. However some time ago she devoted herself to nobleman Bivoj which owns inseparable boar Ervin. Kazi – honest but also very sensual woman staggers between both males, i.e. between her husband and the Prince, until finally she decides for modus vivendi – for both men. Unknowingly she lays the foundations of classical marital infidelity, which survives until present days.
